How I Got a Same-Day Doctor’s Appointment in BC — From Home

When I had a brutal sinus infection recently — the kind where your whole face hurts and you know it’s not going to magically resolve on its own — the last thing I wanted to do was sit for hours in a walk-in clinic. After some last-ditch Googling efforts, I found and tried Avee Health, and honestly? It was such a relief that I wanted to share it.

Avee Health is a free virtual care service for people living in British Columbia. If you have MSP, you can book a same-day appointment with a BC-licensed doctor (usually by phone) without leaving your house. No waiting rooms, no lining up early, no trying to guess which clinic might still be accepting patients.

The sign-up process was surprisingly simple. I just entered my contact information, my Personal Health Number (PHN) from my BC Services Card, and the pharmacy where I wanted prescriptions sent. That was it. Within about five minutes, I was speaking to a doctor.

The appointment itself felt…human. The doctor listened, validated how uncomfortable I was feeling, answered my questions clearly, and was efficient without being rushed or dismissive. I was prescribed antibiotics, and a few hours later my prescription was ready for pickup at my pharmacy. From start to finish, the whole experience felt calm, straightforward, and supportive — especially compared to past walk-in clinic experiences.

Avee can be used for things like infections, prescription renewals, sick notes, lab requisitions, and other common concerns. It won’t replace a family doctor or emergency care, but for those “I need to talk to a doctor soon” moments, it’s a genuinely helpful option.

With cold and flu season in full swing, and access to in-person care feeling harder than ever, I’m really glad this resource exists. I’d personally use Avee again without hesitation, and I wanted to share it in case it helps you avoid a long, exhausting walk-in wait too.
