interpersonal neurobiology
understanding your brain, changing your patterns
Interpersonal neurobiology (IPNB) is a neuroscience-informed approach to therapy that explores how our brain, body, and our relationships interact to shape our well-being. By understanding these connections, we can change our responses to stress and create healthier relationships.
IPNB counselling might be a good fit if:
You feel stuck in the same patterns and want to change, but aren’t sure where to begin
You’re curious about how your brain works and want to shift unhelpful thinking habits
You’re looking for a practical, neuroscience-informed approach to therapy that can be applied in your everyday life
You want to explore how your relationships and past experiences have shaped your brain and nervous system
You want to feel more in control when things get stressful, rather than falling into the same reactive responses
IPNB therapy can help with:
identifying patterns in your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours
exploring why you tend to feel or react a certain way when you’re stressed (anxious, overwhelmed, shut down, angry, etc.)
rewiring fight, flight, or freeze responses so you can respond differently
understanding what safety, regulation, and connection look like for your unique nervous system
making sense of how your past experiences have shaped your brain and body
reframing and shifting patterns that feel difficult or stuck
learning to recognize and respond to signals from your nervous system
strengthening pathways of kindness, compassion, and resilience
What to expect in a session:
We’ll practice integration - connecting different parts of your internal system to support healing and balance
I’ll help you understand the links between your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships
We’ll explore how your past experiences have shaped your present-day responses
I’ll guide you in understanding how stress impacts your brain and body, and how to move through it more effectively
Together, we’ll create a plan to change brain patterns that are causing problems, and strengthen those that support your well-being
